Cage Diving with Great White Sharks

At long alas, our shark trip was upon us. We left Adelaide at 11:00am via coach and headed towards Wallaroo where we were to catch a ferry across to Lucky Bay. From there we continued on our journey straight into Port Lincoln. We arrived safe and sound thanks to our driver Phil.
This shot was taken at the top of the Ferry Boat.

Once we arrived at our hotel, we decided to go on a stroll around the docks. This is the front of our hotel and the dock where we were picked up for our excursion.

Nicole's favourite flower.

Some boats in the Harbour.

Calming our nerves the night before the big day.

Cheers!

We woke up bright and early so that we could catch our boat for 6:30am.

And here is our boat.... Just Kidding!

Actually this is our boat, Lucky KU166S.... Just jokin!!

Okay, this time for real. This is our trusty boat, the "Calypso Star", shark cage and all.

After a two hour trek, we arrived at the Neptune Islands deep in the Indian Ocean.

Once the boat was anchored, it was time to get the sharks a comin'. The crew began to chum the water. Holy mackerel, check out those mackerels!

After about an hour, the first great white shark arrived or as the Aussies call them, "white pointers".

Suiting up for our dive!

After the first three groups, it was finally our turn.

What may have been our last embrace!

We then nervously hopped into the cage.

The pesky fish kept eating the shark bait!

But they were kind of cute.

I was white as a ghost, especially with the blood and fish guts being dumped right behind me!

Nicole trying to smile for the camera with her regulator in her mouth.

Worst self-portrait ever.

Here he (or she) comes!

He blended right into the ocean blue water and would often appear out of nowhere!

He swam in front of us.

To the side of us.

And even right under us.

He had a brave crew of fish that followed his every move.

The infamous white belly.

Here he is coming right for us. Even the dead tuna looks scared!

Swimming into the abyss.

Thankfully, we both survived our first encounter with the great white shark!

We also managed to record a few videos of our excursion. Enjoy!

Sorry about the shaky camera in this last vid. It was our first time using our camera underwater with the new casing. It was really hard to see the screen on the camera and it is pretty rough down there. To stay steady in the cage, you really had to hold onto the bars which was not possible with the camera in one hand (for a novice at least). Luckily we still managed to capture the shark for a few seconds.
